Grand Opening of Sunset Beach; FHM party
For those that get pissed that I post the same blogs on wwe.com I decided to give you a little extra. So stop crying. :)
I went to Sunset Beach's grand opening party last week. This place took over the old Dublin's which was a pretty big LA club back in the day but got shut down a couple years ago. I remember going to Dublin's comedy night and watching Dane Cook perform. This was way before he was popular. Even back then he was great. There'd be like 12 comics and he was on a different level then all of them.
Any way the tore down Dublin's and redid the entire place. It looks amazing. The only problem I saw was for a grand opening party there wasn't a huge line to get in like normal grand openings. I mean whenever a place first opens in LA it's mayhem outside. Not here though. The red carpet wasn't that big. I did see Lance Bass and Reichen but they were in and out of the party.
Jonathan, Ricky, and I stayed for maybe an hour and left. It was a cool setting but it was really big and you weren't aloud to dance. Yeah, in LA a bar has to have a dancing lisence in order to have a dance floor. Stupid isn't it.
I also went to FHM Magazine Party at Le Deux Nightclub. My friend (whose part owner) told me to come out because it was going to be an amazing night. After calling a couple friends I realized I'd be flying solo to this party. To be honest sometimes I like going alone. No one to worry about driving home, figuring out where they are, or waiting for them to want to leave. Plus I usually know people working at the club.
When I got there the party wasn't the spectacle of the Wii or PS3 parties with all the glitz and millions paid to put it on, however there were a lot of really good looking ladies in attendence. Normally, any time you go to Le Deux it's going to be a good time. It's my favorite club. It's set up like a really big house with a huge porch on the outside which is where everyone hangs out. The whose who in Hollywood are always there. It's what US Weekly would call a Hot Spot for Young Hollywood. The papparazzi are always hanging out outside trying to get photos of stars coming and going.
As I got there the red carpet was just about done so I dodged that bullet (not a fan of red carpets). I walked in and the place was packed but it wasn't the same faces I usually see at these kind of events. It was different. Their were a lot of pretty girls and believe it or not I actually could talk to them for more than 5 minutes. For those that don't know I usually get annoyed talking to girls within the first 5 minutes. Either they are annoying me asking stupid questions or looking over my shoulder trying to find someone more important to talk to. I guess you can say it's the LA way. If you saw Swingers it's exactly like that.
While I was talking to a couple girls who were in the magazine I looked over and I saw Jose Canseco. Now some of you might be like big deal he was on the Surreal Life but to me this was huge. There are a small amount of people that I considered idols of mine as a child. Dan Marino, Def Leppard, Magic Johnson, and Jose Canseco. As a kid those were my heros. I remember as a kid in elementary school playing home run derby. My friend would be Mark McGuire and I'd be Jose Canseco and we were the bash brothers. Does anyone else remember that team? Dennis Eckresle, Dave Stewart, Ricky Henderson, Jose, Mark it was a dream team in baseball. My friends and I went to every game the Athletics played the Cleveland Indians.
Now this wasn't the first time I saw him in LA. I saw him at another party and actually said "Hi, I read your book." How original, right? I didn't know what to say. What was I going to make him feel old and say "you were my favorite baseball player when I was in elementary school." He said thanks for reading it and to be honest that was good enough for me. I've seen him a couple times at clubs since then and never said anything to him.
I still find LA wierd coming from Cleveland I never in a million years thought I'd be at a party standing next to a childhood idol of mine. Do you have anyone you can think of you wanted to meet as a child? Besides me, Mizfits. The FHM Magazine party was definately a scene not as big as some parties but still satisfied my taste buds. Until next time. Be good. Be Bad. BE MIZ!!!! HOO RAH!!!
